A good turnout is important if there is to be a dulcimer program there. The program allows time to take a half day of whistle (cheap and easy), concertina or accordion (more expensive, harder), dancing and more! Realistically if you want to play in Irish sessions you need a back-up instrument for when there isn't room or your instrument isn't in tune.
